Kerry Cook

Kerry joined the independent Bar immediately after university following pupillage at a local Chambers. Since then, Kerry has established himself as a well-regarded barrister sole at Bridgeside Chambers for almost 10 years under his own practice.

Kerry is an active member of the legal profession. He is a former member of the executive of the New Zealand Criminal Bar Association, a member of the steering committee of the Defence Lawyers Association New Zealand as well as the deputy convener of the Standards Committee of the Canterbury-Westland Branch of the Law Society. Kerry is also a contributing author of the Ethics, Professional Responsibility and the Lawyer textbook as well as the sentencing chapter in the Brookers Law of Transportation resource.

Kerry has wide-ranging practice including criminal law, serious fraud, appellate advocacy, administrative law, inquests and enquiries, professional discipline, human rights issues and also practices as a youth advocate. He has appeared as lead counsel in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court and has been appointed as an amicus curiae and independent counsel in various matters in all Courts. Kerry also appears in regulatory matters such as the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority as well as various professional disciplinary tribunals.
